This Is Why You Should Never Give Up: The Story Behind LJEC & Its Founder

Walking down memory lane, Grace dealt with three significant events that left her distraught and on the brink of giving up.

First: An Education System That Didn’t Fit Her Daughter

Thirteen years ago, her six-year-old daughter, recently diagnosed with dyslexia, needed an education that supported her pace and potential. But despite her long search, Grace could not find a learning centre that could truly cater to her daughter’s unique needs.

So the mother stopped searching and started building. With time, she became the founder of Learning Journey Education Centre (LJEC). What started off as a personal mission soon evolved into a centre that caters to many students, regardless of their pace and challenges.

Second: Outgrowing Comfort Zones

As word spread, so did demand. This led to her first centre being unable to meet the student intake numbers. Grace was then left with two options: choosing to be safe and keeping things as they are or embracing change and allowing room for expansion. 

She chose the latter and opened a second centre, all while parenting three children under the age of 12. It was a season marked by sleepless nights and steep learning curves, but also unwavering purpose.

Third: A Pandemic That Changed Everything

When COVID-19 struck Singapore, Learning Journey Education Centre, like many other businesses, came to a sudden standstill. Physical classes were no longer an option and Grace knew she had to pivot, fast. While it may come across as a challenge, she saw this as an opportunity for expansion to meet the needs of her students, regardless of their circumstances.

Lessons moved online and Learning Journey Education Centre was subsequently awarded the ‘Best in English Online Classes’ for 2022/2023/2024 by Parents’ World Magazine. Up till today, LJEC’s online classes are still highly rated by their students & parents.

More Than a Centre, LJEC Is A Calling

Each of these challenges may have brought Grace to the brink of giving up, but they also taught her 3 very powerful lessons:

✨ Think beyond the box.

✨ Act with purpose.

✨ Keep moving forward.

From one mother’s act of love came a team that now serves thousands of students and stays alongside them through their educational journey. Grace’s journey is proof that one’s ‘why’ is worth fighting for and while giving up may be a visible option, it need not be the only solution.

Recently, Teacher Grace’s journey was recognized as one of 100 inspiring entrepreneurial stories; a testament to resilience, vision, and heart-led leadership.

As she reflects on the path she’s walked, Grace offers one final thought: “I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m always grateful to my family, friends, and the amazing LJEC team who stood by me. This journey was never walked alone.”
